Jay Hoggard Concert and Workshop for Bronx Youth

Providing the youth of the Bronx a gateway into an institution of higher learning, high school and college-aged music students of all skill levels are invited to attend a free workshop, conducted by Jay Hoggard, featuring the students of the Bronx Arts Ensemble partner schools. The workshop will focus on jazz rhythmic patterns, basic improvisation, and ensemble techniques.

11:30 am – 12:30 pm: CONCERT FOR BRONX YOUTH
The Jay Hoggard Quartet’s latest project, Harlem Hieroglyphs makes excursions into African diasporic rhythmic conceptions, using various African-American spirituals, gospel music, and jazz. With selections titled Piety and Redemption, I Live Because I Breathe, & I Am Free, the Harlem Hieroglyphs Project embodies the essence of the ongoing struggle for equity that greatly relates to the sentiments of today’s Bronx youth.
