Bronx Arts Ensemble’s Young Bronx Artist Contest Winners Perform Live at Eat nYc The Bronx Food and Wine Festival on Friday, August 12
Winners of the Bronx Arts Ensemble’s (BAE) Young Bronx Artist Contest, soprano Linda Collazo and pianist Clayton Stephenson, will present the opening musical performance at Eat nYc The Bronx Food and Wine Festival on Friday, August 12 at the Bronx Zoo’s Dancing Crane Pavilion. The Festival is an annual charity event that benefits the Food Bank for New York City. The 45 minute concert, which begins at 5:15pm, will feature a variety of songs performed by Collazo, accompanied by Stephenson, who will then perform solo works for the piano.
Linda Collazo, the 2016 BAE Young Bronx Artist Contest winner, is a student at Macaulay Honors College, Queens College, and received the Richard and Mica Hadar Scholar Presidential Scholars Award in 2015. A graduate of LaGuardia High School, she has appeared in opera productions at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, and at the New York Lyric Opera Theatre, where she is an intern this summer. Her voice teacher is Sherry Overholt.
Winner of the 2015 BAE Contest, Clayton Stephenson attends the Juilliard School Pre-College Division, and is a senior at the Dalton School. First prize winner of the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition (2013) and LISMA International Piano Competition (2013), he studies with Hong Kuan Chen. Stephenson gives an annual solo recital at Juilliard’s Paul Recital Hall, and performed as a soloist at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, Lincoln Center, and at The Midwest Young Arts Summer Music Summit at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.
BAE’s Young Bronx Artist Contest is designed for music students who live in and/or attend school in the Bronx and who are between ages 14 to 20. The annual Contest provides winners with a cash award and a solo performance opportunity at a BAE chamber music concert. The Contest was originally named after late Congressman Jonathan Bingham, a Riverdale resident and avocational violinist and composer, who was a strong advocate for young talented musicians.
In addition to the music provided by the two winners of the Bronx Arts Ensemble Contest, the Bronx Food and Wine Festival will feature food and beverage sampling from the best local chefs and restaurants, wineries, distilleries, and breweries. There will also be swag bags filled with gifts, cooking demonstrations, and appearances by guests such as Miss Universe Bianca Silva and the Green Bay Packers’ Dale Moss.
