DAVID NUSSENBAUM NAMED NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF BRONX ARTS ENSEMBLE
Executive, Musician and Educator to Join Artistic Director William Scribner in November, 2015
The Bronx Arts Ensemble Board of Directors has unanimously selected DAVID NUSSENBAUM, a business leader, educator, musician and Bronx native, as its Executive Director to work with BAE Founder and Artistic Director since 1972 William Scribner. The announcement was made by Dr. E. Heidi Jerome, BAE Board Chairman.
Mr. Nussenbaum has worked in the private sector as management consultant, technology executive and banker for over 30 years, and will step down from his current position in the Advisory Division of Ernst & Young. He previously held management positions at ACI Worldwide, TransUnion, FICO and JPMorgan Chase.
An avid avocational musician, Mr. Nussenbaum performs in the Ridgewood (NJ) Symphony, Waldwick Band, and Opera Theater of Montclair. He is on the adjunct faculty of Passaic Community College (Accounting) and Ridgewood Community School (Music Appreciation). “David’s track record of commercial success, coupled with lifelong interest in music and education, are precisely what is needed to lead the Bronx Arts Ensemble,” said Dr. Jerome. “The business acumen acquired as a manager will contribute to sound leadership of Bronx Arts Ensemble; it will be fueled by David’s passion for music and his heartfelt desire to give back to young and old in his Bronx hometown”.
Nussenbaum said, “As a student I was fortunate to attend some of the first performances of the Bronx Arts Ensemble, which fueled my love of music and my wish was to work in the arts community. Somehow that wish had to wait a few decades, but it has now been granted! I have a unique opportunity to give back to an underserved community the precious gift of the arts and education. I know that nourishing the arts in children and adults strengthens mind and spirit, and have witnessed how a performer’s discipline of rehearsal, teamwork, focus, listening and mutual support yields results in the concert hall and in the commercial sector.
It has been a pleasure and inspiration to become re-acquainted with Bill Scribner, who has so many loyal friends and admirers in the Bronx and beyond. Bill has dedicated his life to BAE, and is an inspiration to us all. I look forward to his wise counsel going forward.” Mr. Nussenbaum is a graduate of Fieldston School in the Bronx, holds a BA in music from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Columbia School of Business. He is fluent in Spanish and three other foreign languages.
Bronx Arts Ensemble serves the Bronx community in two primary roles: presenter of exceptional musical performances and leader in arts-in-education in the borough’s primary and secondary schools. It presents more than 100 concerts a year, and manages arts-in-education programs at over 40 educational institutions in the Bronx and neighboring communities.
The BAE’s 2015-2016 season opened on October 18 with the first of four chamber music concerts in private homes. Other BAE events include Just For Kids, a series of 10 family performances with Lehman Children’s Theatre, a jazz concert and numerous free programs at Fordham University, New York Botanical Garden and other Bronx venues.
