Andrei Matorin has performed and recorded with world-renowned musicians including Rosa Passos, Claudio Roditi, Tiger Okoshi, Nilson Matta, Oscar Stagnaro, and Christian Scott, among others. Beginning his violin studies at the age of six, this contemporary virtuoso spent his early years studying classical technique in Italy and Switzerland, before moving back to the United States and diving into the world of jazz. In 2003 Matorin became the first violinist to graduate from the jazz program at the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School and that same year was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where he went on to receive two Performance Achievement Awards. Twice he was selected from an international pool to participate in the exclusive Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Program. Matorin’s debut album Opus was rereleased in 2013 following rave reviews including Editor’s Picks from DownBeat. He has recently been featured as a soloist and concertmaster with Paquito D’Rivera at Lincoln Center, and as a soloist at The MoMA.
