The Bronx Arts Ensemble mourns the loss and sends condolences to the family of COMPOSER ROBERT BAKSA, longtime colleague and friend of the BAE. Early advocated by BAE Founder Bill Scribner, Bob Baksa‘s music was programmed on numerous concerts during our early days – both musicians and audiences loved Baksa‘s sunny and ingratiating compositional style, which eschewed modernism and atonality. The BAE’s CDs of Robert Baksa‘s works include Octet for Woodwind Instruments and Nonet: Chamber Concerto No. 2 (Musical Heritage Society, 1989); (Reissued in 2002 by Albany Records with his Quintet for Flute and Strings), and For Winds (1997, Newport Classic) which includes the Alto Sax Sonata (with Paquito D’Rivera), and with members of the BAE, the Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Oboe Sonata andQuintet for Bassoon and Strings.
