Back by popular demand! The Balkans meet Puerto Rico in this first encounter between the traditions of Klezmer and Bomba. The Bronx’s own BOMBAZO Dance Co. joins Bronx Arts Ensemble musicians for a wild evening of music and dance. The project began when we asked, what would happen if we set Balkan music to a Bomba rhythm? After months of freewheeling collaboration, we’re excited to share the music with you, accompanied by new choreography by Milteri Tucker Concepción.

Performers:
BOMBAZO Dance Co.

Director and Choreographer, Milteri Tucker Concepción

Marius Dicpetris, trombone
Will Holshouser, accordion
Evelyn Petcher, violin
Angeleisha Rodgers, trumpet

Mary Ann McSweeney, arrangements

Bombazo is a non-profit drum and dance company, whose mission is to preserve, educate, and showcase traditional Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba and Afro-Caribbean and traditional folkloric elements. They further combine those main ingredients and fuse them with classical, contemporary, and social styles of dance, thus creating a new movement vocabulary while still preserving authenticity.
