Native Soul is a band that brings together the separate-but-equal talents of four very talented artists. The main constant, however, is the musicianship. Their sound is so well melded that the four players suggest the wealth of tone and sound produced by the Big Bands. But they go a step beyond big sound and instead turn into a quartet where it is impossible to single out a lead player.

Native Soul is made up of four gifted and unique players: The dynamic drummer Steve Johns has performed and recorded with artists such as Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Heath, Randy Brecker, Stanley Turrentine, Gary Bartz, Gary Smulyan, and Dr. Billy Taylor. Bass virtuoso Marcus McLaurine has shared the stage with Kenny Burell, James Moody, Lou Donaldson, Clark Terry, Cleo Laine, Abbey Lincoln, Hank Jones, and the Count Basie Orchestra. Equally at home in the jazz and Afro-Carribbean jazz worlds, the brilliant saxophonist Peter Brainin has performed and recorded with Hilton Ruiz, Bobby Watson, Randy Weston, Chico O’Farrill, Joey Calderazzo, and Grammy winner Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. One of New York’s leading young pianists, Noah Haidu has played with Winard Harper, Duane Eubanks, Jon Irabagon, Essiet Essiet, Ken Fowser and Behn Gellice.
